Defending women’s 10,000 metres champion Eilish McColgan is the latest big name to withdraw from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
McColgan cited limited preparation time following a toe injury sustained during the London Marathon in April as the reason for her decision to pull out.
McColgan, who also won silver over 5000m at Birmingham 2022, said: “Sadly, I won’t be competing at Glasgow 2026. After almost 10 weeks out following the London Marathon with my toe injury, it probably won’t come as a huge surprise.”
McColgan is the latest in an increasingly lengthy list of high-profile withdrawals, with the likes of England duo Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Matt Hudson-Smith pulling out on the eve of the Games.
