An 82-year-old man has been arrested after an elderly woman was found dead at a property in North Ayrshire.
Emergency services responded to reports of a death at a property on Macara Drive, Irvine around midday on Sunday.
Officers confirmed that the body of an 81-year-old woman was found dead at the scene.
An 82-year-old man was also found injured at the property and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police confirmed that the man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The force stated that the death is being treated as “unexplained” and enquiries are ongoing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.10pm on Sunday, February 11, 2024, we were called to a report of the death of a woman at a property in Macara Drive, Irvine.
“Emergency services attended and the body of an 81-year-old woman was found within.
“Her death is being treated as unexplained.
“An 82-year-old man was found injured at the property and taken to hospital for treatment.
“The 82-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.”
