Election campaign leaflets for anti-fly tipping candidate found ‘dumped’ over wall in East AyrshireiStock

A senior council officer has revealed that election campaign leaflets for a candidate who stood in the local elections on anti-fly tipping ticket, were dumped in a notorious hotspot.

East Ayrshire Council’s chief governance officer David Mitchell revealed the case during discussions about the council’s approach to littering last week.

He did not identify the candidate, who was not elected, but said: “They found a whole load of material that had just been flung over a wall.

“I think it was a fairly well-known fly-tipping location and the material related back to one of the candidates in the 2022 council elections.

“It was mostly their campaign material.

“What I can tell you is, and I remember it wasn’t the only one, but their top priority, had they been elected, was fly-tipping and littering.

“So, it’s a problem, as members have recognised.”
