Elfingrove trail cancelled this Christmas due to supply issues Email

This year’s Elfingrove’s Elfin Trail has been cancelled just a week after its return was announced.

Organisers Itison confirmed the news on Monday blaming an “increasingly difficult” global and local supply chain that has “deteriorated beyond any of our predictions”.

The Elfin Trail around the River Kelvin was announced last week as part of the festive events return to Kelvingrove, Glasgow, but it has now been postponed until next year.

The Ice Experience 2021 will go ahead however, with building work beginning in February and therefore managing to avoid most of the disruption that came later in the year.

Itison say their aim is for the Ice Experience to put Glasgow on the map with similar events held around the world.

A statement released on the Elfingrove Facebook page on Monday said: “The Elfin Trail is sadly postponed for 2021.

“In the short few weeks since announcing a reimagined and fully outdoor Elfingrove, the global and local supply chain has become increasingly difficult and deteriorated beyond any of our predictions.

“Creating world class events is a major undertaking and one we only do with complete certainty. It is really disappointing to announce postponing the Elfin Trail for 2021 – our magic walk of wonder by the River Elfin.

“The creative sector has taken a hammering over the pandemic. We see it is our responsibility to help build back, create opportunity and push forward with amazing experiences.

“Postponing the trail is a real blow, but the right decision with everything going on out with our control.

“So, to the Ice Experience at Elfingrove.

“We started work back in February building and devising our amazing ice track and as a consequence managed to avoid most of the disruption working with a smaller number of key suppliers.

“Our aim is to create the ice experience that Glasgow deserves and put us on the map up there with other cities around the world.

“We’re busy finalising the detail for our amazing fully covered ice track and food and drink offering.

“We’re really sorry if you were looking forward to the Elfin Trail this Christmas, we were too.”

Tickets for the Ice Experience go on sale this Wednesday at 7.30am.
