A former medical student, who raped a woman in her Glasgow flat, has been granted parole a year after he was deemed a “risk” to women.
Daniel McFarlane was convicted of attacking Ellie Wilson at her Finnieston home and jailed for five years in 2022.
He received two convictions for rape and one for attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
On Thursday, the rape survivor, who waived her right to anonymity, revealed on social media that McFarlane had been granted parole.
The justice reform campaigner stated that she wasn’t allowed to watch the hearing and was told of the result over the phone.
The decision comes a year after a parole board found that the sex offender had a “profound lack of understanding” regarding his offending and “that other females were at risk” until the issues were addressed.
In a letter seen by STV News, the board confirms that they now believe the risk posed by McFarlane “can be managed safely in the community”.
He will be on licence until June 30, 2027. McFarlane has been banned from contacting Ms Wilson or her family.
McFarlane is also banned from entering Glasgow whilst on licence.
