Emergency services were called to a street in Glasgow on Tuesday following reports of an acidic smell.

Police and fire crews were alerted to a strange aroma coming from the ground floor of a building on Peel Street at around 4.45pm on October 15.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) dispatched two appliances to the site as well as a hazmat support unit.

Police officers cordoned off the area as firefighters checked the property.

No hazardous materials were found and emergency services left the area after making sure it was safe.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 4.46pm on Tuesday, October 15 to reports of an acidic smell coming from the ground floor of a building on Peel Street, Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances and specialist resources to the scene. Firefighters checked the property and found no hazardous materials.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was safe.”

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
