A flight was diverted to Glasgow Airport after the crew declared a mid-air medical emergency.
Emirates flight EK241 from Dubai to Toronto was forced to divert to Glasgow on Sunday after crews issued a ‘Squawk 7700’ code.
The code signals an emergency on board and sends an alert to Air Traffic Control.
Glasgow Airport confirmed a passenger medical emergency was the cause of the diversion.
Flight tracking data shows the aircraft, which left Dubai at around 4am on Sunday, turning over the North Sea before diverting to Glasgow.
The flight landed at around 8.30am before taking off for Toronto around two and a half hours later.
A spokesperson for Glasgow Airport said: “The Emirates’ Dubai Toronto service requested to divert to Glasgow due to a medical emergency on board.
“Aircraft touched down approximately 8.30am yesterday and was met by emergency services as is standard procedure.”
A spokesperson for Emirates said: “Emirates flight EK241 from Dubai to Toronto on 25 February was diverted to Glasgow due to a passenger medical emergency.
“Upon arrival in Glasgow the passenger was met by local medical staff and offloaded to receive the necessary treatment.
“Flight E241 departed Glasgow at 1052 hrs local time to continue its journey to Toronto.
“Emirates apologises for any inconvenience caused. The health and safety of our passengers and crew is of paramount importance.”
A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 7.58am to attend an incident at Glasgow Airport.
“An ambulance was dispatched to the scene and one patient was transported to the Royal Alexandria Hospital, Paisley.”
