Adobe StockA prisoner who escaped from custody in South Lanarkshire has been traced following a manhunt.
The man escaped from security staff at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday afternoon and was “briefly at large”.
Police were alerted to the incident and the man was traced by officers a short time later before he was returned to security staff.
A GEOAmey spokesperson said, “A person in custody was briefly at large, however they were quickly reapprehended with support from Police Scotland.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.30pm on Monday, September 21, 2026, a man escaped from security staff at Hamilton Sheriff Court, Beckford Street, Hamilton.
“He was traced by police officers a short time later and returned to security staff.
“A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
