The family of a Scots bus driver who died following a crash have launched a campaign urging Foo Fighters to dedicate a song to him at their concert in Glasgow.

Gordon Stirling died in hospital almost a week after a crash involving a single-decker Stagecoach bus and a Ford Transit on the A77 near Galston on August 14, 2023.

A 42-year-old man was also taken to hospital in serious condition.

Gordon’s parents, Lesley and Charles, are hoping Grohl will see their appeal and honour their son when his favourite band Foo Fighters take to the stage at Hampden Park on Monday.

The parents said the 23-year-old “loved” the band and bought tickets for himself and two friends to see them when they announced their show.

Following the “devastating” incident, Gordon’s father is attending the show with his son’s friends in his place and hopes to honour his son while there.

Gordon was a huge fan of the Foo Fighters, and had tickets to Monday's gig at Hampden Park.

“It would mean a lot if they saw about Gordon, and dedicated My Hero to him during the show,” Mr Stirling told STV News.

“We’ve tried getting in touch with management and the venue but haven’t been able to get a response.”

The band’s hit song My Hero was said to be a favourite of Gordon’s and was played at his funeral.

“He loved them. I’d taken him to concerts before and we’ve seen the Foo Fighters a few times,” his father added.

“It would mean a lot to the family if they saw it and dedicated to him. We’re just broken after losing him.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Following the arrest of a 42-year-old man in connection with a fatal road crash on the A77 in East Ayrshire, a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

“The crash took place near the junction with the A719 for Galston, around 5.30pm on Monday, August 14, 2023.

“The driver of the bus, 23-year-old Gordon Stirling, died following the crash.”
