Fans of late One Direction singer Liam Payne are set to hold a memorial in Glasgow following his death.

Payne, 31, who found fame on The X Factor with the boy band, died after falling from a balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The singer died of multiple traumas and “internal and external haemorrhage”, as a result of a fall from the balcony of a hotel’s third-floor, a post-mortem examination report has said.

Fans were photographed outside of the hotel in Argentina, lighting candles and leaving flowers at the side of the road in an impromptu vigil as they paid tribute to the music star.

Fans in Scotland will have their chance to pay their respects at a memorial event in Glasgow’s George Square on Sunday.

A fan account has called on people who live near the city to meet at at the Sir Walter Scott statue around 2pm to pay their respects.

Instagram account @HS_News_ posted: “If there are any Liam Payne fans in and around Glasgow, some of us are going to meet up at 2pm on Sunday 20th October at the Sir Walter Scott statue in George Square to remember him.

“We are unable to travel to the Manchester/London memorials but would still like to show our love.

“You can wear red, merch, bring flowers, letters, anything you feel is right to remember Liam by.

“Everyone is welcome”.
