A fence has been put around a “dangerous building” in Inverclyde after police closed a road on Wednesday.
Officers cordoned off Kempock Street in Gourock after 4pm yesterday after receiving reports of a dangerous building.
Some businesses were forced to close and access to the street restricted.
Images showed damage to the brickwork of a flat above a takeaway on the street.
In an update on Thursday morning, police said the road reopened after 7.30am and engineers will assess the building.
Fencing has been erected around the area with members of the public urged to “take care”.
A Police Scotland statement read: “Kempock Street in Gourock has reopened this morning following a report of an unsafe building.
“Fencing has been erected around the building but access to Kempock Street is no longer restricted.
“The building will be assessed by engineers later today.”
Lynne Quinn, Independent Councillor in Gourock said on social media: “Kempock Street has reopened but take care as a significant part of the street is still fenced off.”
An Inverclyde Council spokesperson said: “Building standards officers attended yesterday and will visit the site again today to carry out further checks.
“The road was closed for a period of time last night while investigations were carried out but has since reopened.
“Fencing has been put up around the area of concern in the meantime while further investigations are carried out.
“Residents have been safely decanted and we have contacted the owners of the building.”
