Organisers of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games are encouraging people from across the city and beyond to apply to volunteer, with just two weeks remaining before the application portal closes.

The event will see ten sports and six Paralympic sports take place across four venues in the city.

It will begin on July 23 and run until August 2, with 133 sessions of sport, including more than 50 medal sessions.

Over 3,000 of the world’s top athletes from 74 nations and territories are set to attend.

The volunteer programme aims to represent the diversity of Glasgow’s communities, with applications so far reflecting a wide range of ages and backgrounds.

One in four applicants are aged between 16 and 25, while the oldest applicant to date is 89 years old.

Previous Games experience is also evident in the current pool, say organisers, with one in seven applicants having volunteered at either the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games or Birmingham 2022.

All shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an online interview between November 2025 and January 2026.

Successful candidates will receive role offers from February 2026, with volunteer training due to begin in April 2026.

George Black CBE, chair of Glasgow 2026, said he wants to bring the “famous Glaswegian energy” to the games.

“With two weeks left to apply, this is the last chance for residents to be part of a truly special event”, he said. “Volunteers play a key role in the Games, and I have no doubt that our Games volunteers next year will bring the famous Glaswegian energy and warm welcome to athletes and visitors from all over the globe.”

Diane McLeod, director of workforce and games services at Glasgow 2026, added: “We’ve seen a strong response so far, with applications coming in from every corner of the city, Scotland and beyond.

“The strength and diversity of applicants is truly inspiring, from first-time volunteers to those who supported previous Games.”

Former volunteer Sarah Quinn, who was a Clydesider during the Glasgow 2014 Games, said: “I met and volunteered with so many amazing people from all over the world, from all different backgrounds and of all ages.

“It was such a proud time for Glasgow in 2014 when the city really did come together, and I’m sure it will be the same in 2026.”

Applications to volunteer at Glasgow 2026 close at 12pm on Friday, November 14.
