Fire crews remain in attendance after blaze rips through derelict Carnbooth House Hotel in Glasgow

A road remains closed this morning in Glasgow on Thursday after a fire ripped through a derelict hotel.

Firefighters were called to the old Carnbooth House Hotel in Busby Road, Carmunnock shortly after 8pm on Thursday night after the blaze broke out.

Flames could be seen from the roof before the fire spread throughout the building

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said that ten appliances were dispatched to put out the flames.

Carmunnock Bypass was closed between Busby Road and Carmunnock Road on Thursday night and police advised that it remains closed this morning.

The public is being asked to avoid the area and find an alternative route while nearby residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution.

The large country house which was built by architect Alexander Cullen in around 1900, has been empty since 2019.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 8.03pm on Thursday, August 17 to reports of a derelict building on fire at Busby Road, Carmunnock, Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised a total of ten appliances at the height of the fire to the scene.

“As of Friday, August 18 at 8.39am, there are still six fire appliances and one aerial appliance in attendance, and firefighters are continuing to extinguish the fire.

“There are no reported casualties.”
