Police are appealing for information after a fire was deliberately lit in a common close at a block of flats in Inverclyde on Sunday morning.

Emergency services were called at around 4.25am on June 30 to a report of the fire at the property on Dellingburn Street in Greenock.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the blaze and nobody was injured during the incident.

Enquiries are ongoing and officers are appealing for the assistance of the public.

Detective inspector Nicky Beattie, of Greenock CID, said: “Thankfully nobody was injured as a result of this dangerous and reckless act.

“Extensive enquiries are ongoing and we are keen to trace those responsible.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious, or who has any information which may assist us, to get in touch.

“I am also keen to hear from anyone with potential private CCTV, dashcam or video doorbell footage.”
