Dozens of firefighters are tackling a blaze which has broken out at a derelict hotel in Ayr.

Crews rushed to the scene around 5.30pm on Monday evening to reports of a fire within the Station Hotel.

Thirteen appliances were mobilised at the scene and work to contain the fire is ongoing.

No one has been hurt as a result of the fire, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed.

It is the second time the building has been ablaze this year, with firefighters attending a fire at the site in May.

Labour MSP Katy Clark said she was “appalled” to see that the crumbling hotel was ablaze again after “years of neglect”.

Fellow Labour MSP Paul Sweeney said it was “horrible” to see the building on fire and hoped the damage was limited.

He added: “This is the second arson attack to hit the French Renaissance style building by architect Andrew Galloway this year.”

An SFRS spokesperson said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were alerted at 5.27pm on Monday to reports of a fire at Station Hotel in Ayr.

“Operations Control mobilised a total of 13 appliances to the scene and crews working to extinguish the fire.

“No injuries have been reported at this time.”
