Firefighters were called to a blaze at a former private school in Rutherglen months after its closure.
The fire was reported at the Fernhill School campus, which ceased operating in June, at around 8.50pm on Friday September 11.
Six appliances, including a high-reach vehicle, were sent to the scene.
No injuries were reported.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 8.48pm to reports of a fire within a former school building in Fernbrae Avenue, Rutherglen.
Gordon Ferguson/Instagram:Fergy1219“Operations Control mobilised six appliances, including a high-reach appliance, and firefighters worked to extinguish the fire. There were no reported casualties.
“Crews remain at the scene dampening down hotspots and working to make the area safe.”
The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
Local MSP Claire Haughey said: “I’m absolutely devastated to hear about the fire at Fernhill School site this evening. An historic local building with so much of a local connection.”
The school, which opened in 1972, announced plans in February to close at the end of the summer term as it entered administration due to “enormous financial pressures.”
Provisional liquidators made the decision to close the school a day early in June to “safeguard pupils’ welfare”.
The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) said the school had failed to submit its annual financial accounts for three consecutive years.
