First events announced for 21st edition of Glasgow Film Festival

The first major events and screenings for the 21st edition of the Glasgow Film Festival have been announced.

Taking place in 2025, the annual film festival will see special film events return at venues across the city from February 26 to March 9.

The award winning festival has revealed the titles in its popular retrospective strand, 10 free screenings which give audiences the chance to watch back catalogue classics on the big screen and 2025’s theme is “Our Time is Now: Coming of Age in the Movies”.

Retrospectives scheduled to screen from this year are A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Pather Panchali, and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie – which starred the late Dame Maggie Smith as an eccentric and liberated school teacher.

Also included is Scottish coming-of-age classic Gregory’s Girl, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Boyz N the Hood, This is England, Mustang – which won Glasgow Film Festival’s Audience Award in 2016 – Raw, and Lady Bird.

Tickets for the free retrospective screenings can be collected from Glasgow Film Theatre’s Box Office on the morning of each screening, which take place at 10.30am during the festival.

“The retrospective screenings are an essential part of Glasgow Film Festival as they offer all audiences, no matter their circumstances, the chance to watch films for free, and to see films as they are best enjoyed: on a big screen with fellow film fans around you.”
