Five people have been arrested following a police operation targeting domestic abuse.

On Tuesday, officers executed warrants at addresses in the Hamilton, Larkhall and Lanark areas and apprehended individuals in connection with multiple offences, including assault, breach of bail and outstanding warrants.

Two men, aged 34 and 43, have been charged and appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

A 30-year-old man has been arrested and released pending further enquiries.

A man aged 54, and a 25-year-old woman have been arrested on outstanding warrants.

Sergeant Stewart McDonald said: “We work closely with a range of partners to ensure victims are treated sensitively, while also ensuring we maximise every opportunity to bring offenders to justice.

“We know that reporting domestic abuse is a big step for anyone to take but I want to assure people that our officers are here to help anyone who is in need and are specially trained to deal with these reports thoroughly and sensitively.

“We continue to encourage victims of domestic abuse to come forward and not suffer in silence.

“If you, or anyone who know, are being abused or may be risk of abuse then please call 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
