Passengers have faced delays and disruption as two of Scotland’s busiest airports dealt with jet fuel supply issues.
Glasgow Airport confirmed there were delays to some flights on Sunday, while Emirates’ services from Edinburgh to Dubai stopped at Manchester to refuel due to what the airline said was a “fuel shortage”.
It is understood that operations were disrupted while a local fuel supplier EET dealt with a driver shortage and was not related to concerns around the closure of the Strait of Hormuz amid the war in Iran.
A company spokesperson for EET said: “EET Fuels would like to assure travellers that the short-term fuel logistics issues that affected some airlines at Edinburgh and Glasgow airports have been resolved.
“Our fuel production and availability are normal and there are no shortages.
“We would like to apologise to our airline customers and any passenger whose journey was delayed because of these issues.”
STV News understands there are multiple suppliers serving airlines at the airport, and there has been no widespread disruption to operations.
Both Glasgow and Edinburgh airports have said there has been no knock-on effect to services on Monday.
A statement from Edinburgh Airport said: “An issue with fuel supply to some of the airlines operating from Edinburgh Airport has been resolved with minimal disruption.
“Deliveries are now arriving and the airport is running as normal.”
A spokesperson for Glasgow Airport said: “A short‑term staffing issue has affected one of the fuel suppliers used by airlines at the airport, with work underway to return stock levels to normal.
“There have been no related flight cancellations, and the airport remains fully operational.”
