Flooding has caused multiple lines on Scotland’s rail network to be shut down, with some low-level servives cancelled.

Network Rail confirmed journeys to and from Glasgow Central’s low level were disrupted after flooding hit the tracks on the Argyle Line at Dalmarnock on Thursday.

Passengers on services from Dalmuir to Larkhall and Motherwell and from Milngavie to Cumbernauld are among those facing cancellation.

Engineers say high water levels mean services are unsafe to run in the areas.

Network Rail said on X: “Due to flooding on the Argyle Line at Dalmarnock, we’ve had to close the line to trains in both directions. This affects all services via Glasgow Central low-level.

“We’ve had to close the line as floodwater has risen above the height of the rails, and it’s not safe to run trains until it subsides. Flood pumps at Dalmarnock are running to clear the water.

“Our track teams are on their way.”

ScotRail added: “We’ve received reports of high water levels at Dalmarnock. For safety reasons the line is closed until the water level drops to a safe level.”

National Rail said disruption could last until 10.30pm on Thursday.

In a separate incident, Network Rail said there was flooding at Lugton, between Barrhead and Kilmarnock.

They added on X: “Our team is on the way.

“Until engineers arrive and inspect the track, we’ve closed the line.”

ScotRail added: “Due to severe weather we’ve had reports of high water levels between Barrhead and Kilmarnock.

“For safety reason trains have been suspended until the water level drops to a safe level.”
