A former live music venue in Paisley is set to be transformed into an aparthotel after plans were given the go-ahead by Renfrewshire Council.
A bid for planning permission to convert the site at 38 New Street, previously home to The Cave, into a seven-unit facility has been granted subject to conditions.
The applicant intends to link the building to the neighbouring 40-42 New Street, which has approval for an 11-unit aparthotel, and combine the business use.
A planning statement, prepared by agent company CGA Design, explained: “This application seeks planning permission for change of use of a public house to seven serviced apartments on New Street, Paisley.
“The application also proposes to make some minor alterations to the front elevation of the property with a window replacing a door opening on the front elevation and two new windows to the side gable elevation.
“The application site is a two-story unit and fronts New Street to the north and an open grass and tree area of land to the west.
“To the east it adjoins 40-42 New Street, which is subject to a current approval … for change of use to 11 serviced apartments.
“The applicant owns both these properties and the proposal is to link through internally to combine the business use.”
Assessing the plans, the council said their impact on the character and amenity of the town centre would be “acceptable”.
It added: “The proposal would provide visitors to Paisley with somewhere to stay, helping to boost footfall in the wider centre.”
The Cave’s closure was announced on social media last August and the venue welcomed punters for the final time in mid-September.
“What a journey it has been,” it said in a statement at the time. “We have had highs, lows, and even Covid thrown into the mix. But what a blast.
“We would be here all day if we were to thank everyone individually and the hundreds of bands that have entertained us over the last 10 years.
“We are heartbroken to close our doors and trust us when we say we have thrown everything into trying to keep things going but, as they say, all good things come to an end.”
