Four climbers rescued in blizzard conditions on Ben Nevis

Rescuers braved strong winds and a wind chill factor of minus 20 degrees celsius.

Four climbers have been rescued on Ben Nevis after getting into difficulties in blizzard conditions.

A major operation was launched after the alarm was raised on Monday.

Lochaber mountain rescue team said 22 members had been involved in the search.

The group are believed to have run into problems near the summit of Britain’s highest peak.

Lochaber Mountain Rescue team described weather conditions as “horrendous”.

Rescuers faced very strong winds, blizzard conditions and a wind chill factor of -20C.

The team said one person was initially found safe and well while efforts were made to locate the others.

The remaining members of the party were later found by rescuers.

A coastguard helicopter had been involved but had been limited in use due to the conditions.

It was not immediately clear why the climbers had ventured out despite forecasts of poor conditions.

People commenting on the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Facebook page questioned why the climbers were on the mountain.
