Four men have been charged after 30,000 suspected illegal cigarettes and 15kg of tobacco was seized by police in Dumfries.

Officers made the discovery after raiding a premises on High Street on Friday.

They seized over 30,000 suspected illegal cigarettes, 15kg of rolling tobacco and £8,000 in cash.

Four men, aged 24, 28, 28 and 31, were arrested and charged.

They are due to appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court at a later date.

It comes after the recovery of a large number of non-duty-paid cigarettes and tobacco in Dumfries on July 23, 2025.

These searches were carried out alongside partners from Dumfries and Galloway Council Trading Standards.

Three men, aged 25, 28 and 31, were arrested in connection and the investigation is being led by HMRC.

Police Scotland is urging anyone with information regarding the supply of illegal cigarettes and tobacco in their area to come forward.

Inspector Boyd from Dumfries Community Policing Unit said “These operations highlight our commitment to targeting those involved in serious and organised crime in Dumfries.

“If you have information regarding those involved in the supply of illegal cigarettes and tobacco then contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
