A Glasgow charity has launched an urgent fundraiser amid a struggle with a “staggering” £60,000 increase in running costs.
Starter Packs Glasgow, has been helping families “build a new life with dignity” across the city for over two decades.
As of January 2024, the charity said they have “eased the financial burden” of over 1,000 people, many of which have families.
Their work is supported by The Magpie’s Eye and The Magpie’s Nest, as well as donations, however, the cost of living crisis has added extra financial pressure.
The charity said their bills have risen “exponentially” in the past 12 months and are fundraising to bridge a gap of around £60,000 per year.
Michelle Fisher has now started a GoFundMe to help support the charity in their financial struggles.
“The impact is a staggering £5k increase (per month/£60k per annum) that we are seeking to bridge.
“We have applied for various grants and funding, but panels only meet quarterly and our need is immediate and urgent,” the fundraising page said.
The fundraiser, which is currently just short of £1,000, is aiming to raise £20,000 to help bring valuable supplies to those in need.
The charity’s packs are available by referral by referral from a Housing Association or partner organisation, on the tenant’s receipt of a new accommodation from them.
They said their work allows people to settle into their new home more quickly, reducing the chances of having to leave the tenancy, thus breaking the cycle of homelessness.
According to their website, the packs include over 60 items such as crockery, kettles, toasters, pots and pans, bedding, towels, toiletries and cleaning products.
