Gayle Logan stabbed man at neighbour's flat in Coatbridge after making noise complaint

A woman tried to kill a man after storming up to a neighbour’s home to complain about noise.

Gayle Logan left the man in a coma after the stabbing at the block in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire on February 12, 2021.

The 48-year-old mum insisted she was the victim and had no idea how the man was badly hurt.

But Logan is now behind bars having been convicted of attempted murder after a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

She is due to be sentenced next month.

The attack occurred at the flats in Pentland Court in Coatbridge.

Logan’s neighbour had a number of people at her home that night including the victim.

The woman later went to bed, but was wakened by “banging” and a “commotion”.

The witness added it then seemed as if “someone was coming through the door”.

She told jurors she was soon aware of the man being badly injured.

The witness said: “He was bleeding a lot. It looked like the blood was squirting out.”

The woman telephoned Logan to see if knew what had happened in their block.

Logan then told the woman: “He has just bottled me and I stabbed him.”

The thug also warned if a distressed woman in the background did not “shut up” she would “come up for her as well”.

The woman said: “She said that if we told the police anything that something would happen.

“I do not really know how I felt. I was more shocked than anything else.”

In his evidence, the male victim – who appeared at one stage to be on the verge of tears – denied attacking Logan.

Referring to Logan in the dock, he stated: “She cannot even look at me.”

The court heard the man suffered a number of stab wounds resulting in a collapsed lung.

Jurors were told there was no “noise” when Logan came to the door that night.

But, she claimed there was “shouting, screaming and loud music” adding she was “really anxious” as she went up to ask her neighbours to be quiet.

Logan told jurors the man allegedly struck her “straight away” with a bottle after opening the door to her.

Her lawyer Geoffrey Forbes asked her: “What did you do?”

She replied: “I tried to fight back. I tried to punch him.”

Logan claimed there was then a “struggle” before she managed to get away back to her flat.

Mr Forbes said: “[The man] alleges that you had a weapon in your hands – silver pair of scissors or a silver knife.

“Did you have any weapon in your possession?”

Logan said: “None.”

Listing the victim’s injuries, the defence advocate then put to her: “Do you know how he got any of these?”

She replied: “No, I do not.”

Quizzed why she had not made a complaint to police about apparently being attacked, Logan claimed she did not want to “antagonise the situation any more”.

Logan, who latterly lived elsewhere in Coatbridge, had been on bail, but was remanded by Judge Simon Collins KC pending sentencing on August 1 in Stirling.
