Buchanan Galleries revamp given go ahead

The redevelopment will see a destination food hall added to the mall, as well as an additional retail unit adjacent to the site.

Councillors have approved plans to give Glasgow’s Buchanan Galleries a revamp.

Owners Landsec said the plans will see a “comprehensive modernisation” of the existing mall over a series of phases, beginning in the second half of 2026.

A destination food hall will be added to the site, along with a new retail space adjacent to the mall.

Investment will be made in new lighting, modern digital art and advertising displays.

The mall will remain open during the works.

Glasgow City Council leader councillor Susan Aitken said: “There’s already a real sense of momentum building in the city centre and the approved plans for Buchanan Galleries will make a huge contribution to that.

“I’m particularly pleased to see the refurbishment works are scheduled to start next year, and with the investments already under way and in the pipeline, the renewed Buchanan Galleries can be a major catalyst in the next our city centre’s next chapter.”
