A Glasgow carer branded “sexually abusive” has been struck off after being convicted of attacking a girl while she slept.

George Sands was convicted of “lewd, indecent and libidinous” actions towards a girl at Glasgow Sheriff Court on August 28, 2023.

Sands was found to have repeatedly touched the girl inappropriately, watched her undress and watched her wash between July 1991 and July 1992.

He was also found to “indecently assault” another girl while she slept between January 1 1991 and December 31 1991.

Following the conviction, the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) found Sands’ fitness to practice to be “impaired” and removed him from their register.

The watchdog said they were unable to determine how many times Sands’ had sexually abused people but were made aware that the first allegation was committed on various occasions for almost a year.

“The second sexual offence extends the time period further and demonstrates a pattern of sexually abusive behaviour by you,” the report said.

The SSSC said Sands behaviour was “prolonged and deliberate” adding that he had shown no insight.

“Your actions were likely to cause significant physical, sexual, psychological and emotional harm to others. Your actions bring into question your values and raise significant attitudinal concerns that do not correspond with the values and behaviour expected of a social services worker,” the report said.
