Glasgow Central train services disrupted after bull wanders onto tracks between Bishopton and Paisley St JamesiStock

Train services were suspended on Monday night after a wayward bull wandered onto the tracks between Bishopton and Paisley St James.

Services between Gourock, Wemyss Bay, and Glasgow Central were suspended from around 8.45pm as Network Rail and British Transport Police officers attempted to remove the rogue animal.

Police Scotland officers were also in attendance, but ScotRail later confirmed via Twitter that their presence was due to two members of the public who had also gone onto the train line and “not to arrest the bull”.

The bull eventually wandered onto an embankment at around 10.12pm, and the line was briefly reopened to allow the 9pm service from Gourock to Glasgow Central to carefully pass by.

The line was then closed off again to allow Network Rail officers and the owner of the bull to remove the animal from the tracks safely.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail’s head of customer operations, said: “We’re sorry to customers who experienced disruption to their journey as a result of this incident, and share their frustrations when these things happen.

“Anyone delayed by 30 minutes or more is entitled to claim for compensation through our Delay Repay Guarantee on our website or mobile app.”
