A hockey club in Glasgow has banned a fan for life after a racist social media comment regarding a rival player.

Glasgow Clan said that racist and discriminatory comments were made under a Facebook post by the Elite Ice Hockey League.

It came after they congratulated Fife Flyers forward Mason Alderson on scoring his first goal during the Flyers’ 3-2 defeat to the Clan on Sunday.

A strongly issued statement from the team, which plays at the Braehead Arena, said the comments were “deeply concerning and will not be tolerated” and confirmed the fan would be banned for life.

Fife Flyers posted the same statement as Glasgow Clan, confirming that the fan was also banned from all Flyers games.

The statement read: “Glasgow Clan are aware of racist and discriminatory comments made across social media platforms last night. These comments are deeply concerning and stand in direct opposition to everything our club represents.

“Let us be absolutely clear: racism, homophobia, and any form of discriminatory or hateful behaviour will not be tolerated – whether online, in the arena, or anywhere associated with our club.

“We are proud to be a diverse and inclusive organisation that welcomes players, staff, and fans from all walks of life. Anyone found engaging in racist, homophobic, or abusive behaviour will face a ban and will be refused entry to Braehead Arena.

“The individual involved in this matter has been issued with a lifetime ban and will not be permitted entry to the arena for any event. The incident has been reported to the appropriate authorities, and we will continue to cooperate fully with their investigations. We will not hesitate to take further action where necessary.

“Glasgow Clan remains firmly committed to providing a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for everyone. Hate has no place in hockey – or anywhere else.

“We thank our supporters and the wider hockey community in standing with us in defending these values. #HockeyIsForEveryone.”

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
