A man has been banned from keeping animals for four years after he slammed his dog off the floor before striking the pet with a door frame.

Conor Nicholls, from Glasgow, was visited by the Scottish SPCA in May 2025 after Police Scotland reported an incident of dog cruelty involving a black Labrador named Juke.

Footage showed him slamming Juke against the wall and then striking him off a door frame with force, causing the dog to spin and hit his jaw hard off the floor.

Inspector Cannon from the SPCA immediately attended the property, accompanied by officers from Police Scotland, and removed Juke from Nicholls’ care.

Nicholls reacted aggressively and Juke showed clear signs of fear around him, the SSPCA said.

Inspector Cannon formally cautioned Nicholls and took Juke for further veterinary care. He was later transported to a Scottish SPCA Animal Rescue & Rehoming Centre.

“It was heartbreaking to witness this poor dog be in such extreme fear and distress,” Inspector Cannon said.

“No animal deserves such brutal treatment. Removing Juke was the only way to guarantee his safety and prevent any further physical harm.”

At Glasgow Sheriff Court on June 24, Nicholls admitted breaching animal welfare legislation. He was handed a four-year ban on owning or keeping animals.

He was also fined £470.

Inspector Cannon added: “We are pleased with the Sheriff’s decision.

“Juke was the victim of a brutal attack. Nicholls’ behaviour was unacceptable, and caused his dog unnecessary pain, fear and distress.

“No animal should be subjected to such abuse, and this sentencing sends a clear message that animal cruelty and neglect will not be tolerated in Scotland.”
