A suspect has been charged in connection with a series of banking scams that reportedly involved impersonating police officers.

The 24-year-old man was arrested following the search of an address in Glasgow’s Queensland Drive on Thursday.

He was due to appear at Stirling Sheriff Court on Friday.

In a statement, Police Scotland said a major investigation was launched following a number of complaints since the turn of the year, primarily within the Central Belt.

Detective chief inspector Graeme Lindsay said: “Our inquiries into these offences are continuing and I would urge all members of the public to remain vigilant of these sort of scams and report any suspicious phone calls or approaches they receive from anyone claiming to be from Police Scotland.”
