An area of Glasgow has been ranked as one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world.
Shawlands in the city’s southside has been ranked among the best places to explore and travel by Time Out.
The list, which also includes areas in Lisbon, Guadalajara and London, highlighted Shawlands for its multicultural community and food and nightlife spots.
Only 16 European neighbourhoods made the annual list of 51 places across the globe.
Other areas of the UK who featured alongside Shawlands include Cliftonville in Margate, Walthamstow in North East London, The Northern Quarter in Manchester and Kelham Island in Sheffield.
Colonia Americana in Guadalajara in Mexico was named as the number one Coolest Neighbourhood in the World to visit right now.
Cais do Sodré in Lisbon was crowned number two while Bo Village in Siem Reap in Cambodia is at number three.
Time Out’s top five Coolest Neighbourhoods in the World list is completed by Ridgewood in New York at number four and Mile End in Montreal in fifth place.
Glasgow’s Shawlands comes in at number 11 on the list which has now been running for its fifth year.
It is not the first time that a Scottish area has made an appearance.
In 2019 Kelvinbridge featured at number 38 while Dennistoun made the top ten at number eight in 2020.
Earlier this year Glasgow also ranked in Time Out’s Best Cities list at number four in the world, with Scottish capital Edinburgh taking the number one spot.
Glasgow’s Great Western Road also gained recognition by ranking third in Time Out’s Coolest Street in the World list for 2022.
James Manning, Travel Editor at Time Out, said: “Glasgow is one of the UK’s coolest cities right now and the action is not just in the centre. Shawlands is really worth heading south of the river to explore. It has a fantastic multicultural community with new food spots and nightlife opening all the time as well as the big draw of the refurbished Burrell Collection.”
The list is aimed at helping travellers and residents alike to get to know these distinctive and unique city spaces around the world.
Dave Calhoun, chief content officer for North America and the UK at Time Out, said: “Each year we ask our international Time Out audience and our global team of local Time Out experts to nominate the areas of cities right now which have the best mix of cutting-edge culture, affordable food and drink, street life, nightlife and community.
“They are not homogenised, corporate destinations but areas which have an independent and welcoming vibe.”
He added: “You may be able to walk across them in half an hour or less but they are packed with experiences which you can spend time exploring.”
