A social worker has been banned from the profession after being jailed for the rape of multiple women.
Thomas Proctor was jailed for eight years in April last year after being found guilty of attacking three women.
The 44-year-old preyed on his victims – including using his position to threaten to have the children of two of them removed from their care.
Proctor had denied the accusations during a trial, but jurors found him guilty of a total of 11 charges including the repeated rape and indecent assault of one woman at different locations in Lanarkshire.
He was convicted of sexually assaulting the second female at a flat in Glasgow’s Maryhill.
He was finally guilty of raping and making threats to the final woman in Fife and Lanarkshire.
The crimes spanned between January 2002 and August 2019.
Judge William Gallacher imposed an 11-year extended sentence on Proctor of Airdrie, Lanarkshire.
He will be behind bars for eight years and under supervision upon his release for three years and subject to an indefinite non-harassment order against his victims.
He was also put on the sex offenders register for an indefinite period.
Proctor had latterly been a social worker in the Alloa area in Clacks before being suspended.
A spokesperson for Clackmannanshire Council confirmed after the case he “was no longer employed” by the authority.
The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) found Proctor’s behaviour to be “fundamentally incompatible” with his remaining on the register.
His actions were capable of inflicting “long-lasting emotional, physical and psychological harm” and the public would “rightly expect” action to be taken.
The SSSC found a striking-off order as the most suitable sanction in order to “maintain the continuing trust and confidence” in the profession.
Proctor was struck off in a decision by the SSSC on February 9, 2025.
