A Glasgow housing association has closed its office due to the “potential for trouble” caused by a protest
A crowd gathered outside the New Gorbals Housing Association building on Crown Street on Thursday to voice their concerns regarding housing in the area.
The demonstration has also been promoted online by anti-immigration groups.
The housing association decided to close the office due to concerns that people from outside the local area may attend and cause disorder.
They added that no complaints of “concerning behaviour” had been received prior to the protest.
A spokesperson told STV News: “We have not received any reports of concerning behaviour from the community or our tenants, and we have checked with Police Scotland, who have confirmed they have had nothing reported to them.
“Everyone in the Gorbals has the right to protest about any issue. However, we are worried about the potential for trouble from people outwith the Gorbals at this demonstration and took the decision to close our office temporarily in the interests of the safety of our customers and staff.
“We are happy to answer any questions and meet with anyone who is concerned.”
