A hairdresser has been left “devastated” after a deliberate fire ripped through the back of her salon.
M & D’s Hair Studio in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, was extensively damaged by the blaze, which happened at the rear of Tourhill Road between 8am and 9am on Monday.
No one was injured in the fire.
Salon owner Sarah Fairweather took to Facebook on Monday to share pictures of the damage.
She said: “So if the coronavirus wasn’t enough to deal with as a salon closure, someone decided to light a fire next to the building and have destroyed the back of my salon.
“We need to stop these people making fire and destroying people’s livelihood.”
Ms Fairweather praised all those who have offered her support.
She added: “Today my salon went on fire and of course I am devastated.
“However I cannot believe the support I have had from everyone. I’m totally overwhelmed by you all, thank you so much.”
Detectives have launched an investigation into the wilful fireraising and have been studying CCTV from the area for more information.
Detective sergeant Andrea Templeton said: “I would appeal to anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area on Monday morning, or anyone who holds any information on this crime.
“Luckily there was no one injured as a result of the fire, but it has caused extensive damage to the shop.”
