Heavy rain to batter parts of Scotland for 30 hours in yellow weather warning after Storm BramiStock

A number of areas in Scotland are to be battered by heavy rain this weekend as the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning.

Forecasters have issued the alert covering much of the south-west of Scotland, including Dumfries and Galloway, East Ayrshire, South Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire and the Scottish Borders.

These areas are expected to be hit with 30 hours of rain starting from noon on Saturday until 6pm on Sunday evening.

The Met Office says the rain will be heavy at times with accumulations of 30-40 mm developing quite widely and locally 60-80 mm across high ground.

Strong southwesterly winds are also possible at times, leading to the risk of travel disruption and the chance of flooding in parts.

The yellow warning comes days after Storm Bram battered Scotland with disruption on rail, road, ferry and air routes across the country.

Lorries were blown over on the M74, all CalMac ferries were facing disruption or cancellation and train lines were blocked earlier this week.
