A lorry driver has admitted causing the death of a young cyclist by careless driving in Glasgow.
Emma Burke Newman was killed after being involved in a collision with an HGV at a set of traffic lights on Broomielaw on January 27, 2023.
The 22-year-old was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital following the incident but died a short time later.
Paul Mowat pled guilty of causing death by careless driving at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday.
The 69-year-old’s sentence has been deferred until next month pending background reports.
The incident sparked national attention with campaign launched in Emma’s memory to make the city’s junctions safer.
Cyclists, pedestrians and other road users were encouraged to submit evidence about their experience of busy junctions across the city as part of the Waiting to Happen Campaign.
