Hillwalker with serious injuries rescued by helicopter after fall on Goatfell

A hillwalker with serious injuries had to be rescued by a helicopter after falling on Goatfell.

Arran Mountain Rescue Team were called around 3pm on Sunday to reports of a hiker who had fallen on the path while descending from Goatfell towards Corrie.

Due to serious reported injuries, the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter Rescue 199 was sent to the scene.

The casualty was then airlifted from the hill for further medical care.

In a non-official second call-out, crews assisted a cyclist who was injured in an accident outside the base, and team members provided first aid until emergency services arrived.

Team members were then sent out on foot to reports of a second casualty at Coire Fhionn Lochan, who had sustained a lower leg injury.

They were evacuated by Argo Cat and handed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

A statement read: “We would like to thank the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter crew and the Scottish Ambulance Service for their assistance today.

“We wish both casualties and the cyclist a full and speedy recovery.”
