Protestors have created a giant artwork of US President Donald Trump on the beach next to his golf course in South Ayrshire.

Greenpeace UK revealed a 55m by 40m artwork on the beach outside Trump Turnberry with the message “Time to resist – fight the billionaire takeover” etched into the sand.

Activists said the artwork, which was drawn overnight by a team from the arts organisation Sand in Your Eye alongside Greenpeace, took several hours to complete.

Images and drone footage show the face of the 47th US President covering a large area of the beachfront with the Girvan golf course in the background.

It comes after seven people were arrested in connection with vandalism at Turnberry in which red paint was thrown over the clubhouse.

The greens on the course were dug up and marker flags were pulled down around 4am on March 8.

The luxury golf resort is operated by the Trump Organisation which is owned by the US President.

Trump said anyone involved with causing the damage is a “terrorist” and that he hopes they are “treated harshly”.

Areeba Hamid, co-executive director of Greenpeace UK, said: “During his first 100 days President Trump has been actively working to dismantle and weaken environmental protections and attack those who fight to protect nature and our shared climate, putting the corporate profits of his billionaire friends ahead of people and the planet.

“It’s time to resist the billionaire takeover of our rights and freedoms.

“Trump’s biggest allies are a group of unelected billionaires, including the fossil fuel company CEOs who are knowingly burning the planet, polluting our waters, and hurting communities around the world.

“No one voted for these corporate bullies to end free speech, but they will stop at nothing to keep their oil and gas empire alive – even weaponising the legal system to crush dissent and silence environmental activism.”

Trump Turnberry has been contacted for comment.
