Police have found suspected human remains in a wooded area west of Carlisle on Thursday.

Suspected human remains have been found in the search for a missing Scottish man believed to have been murdered in Carlisle.

Paul Taylor, 56, was last seen on October 17, 2023, after leaving his home in Annan, Dumfries and Galloway, to travel to Carlisle before midnight via the M6 Southbound.

Cumbria Police said his blue Vauxhall Corsa then headed in the direction of the Kingmoor South area of Carlisle and the Carlisle West area.

The car was possibly spotted in the Yewdale, Sandsfield Park and Brough Road areas on the night of October 17 and early morning of October 18.

Mr Taylor’s car was later found abandoned in Langwathby at around 8.45am on October 19.

Cumbria Police said on Thursday, May 2, suspected human remains had been found in the area of Finglandrigg Wood, near the B5307 west of Carlisle.

Mr Taylor’s family has been informed of developments and a police presence will be in the area for some time, the force said.

A 19-year-old man previously appeared in court charged with murder while another 19-year-old man was charged with assisting an offender.

Jack Crawley was charged with murder and Marcus Goodfellow was charged with assisting an offender.
