A man has been left badly injured and robbed of hundreds of pounds in a violent attack in Renfrew.

The assault took place on Tennant Street between 2.30am and 5am on Friday.

A 68-year-old man was attacked by an unknown man and required hospital treatment.

He was also robbed of a three-figure sum of cash.

The suspect is described as a white man, in his 40s, around 6ft and athletic build, with short, brown hair. He was wearing a long-sleeved dark jacket and spoke with a local accent.

Detective sergeant Kenny McLachlan said: “This was a violent and sustained assault, which left the victim injured and badly shaken.

“Enquiries have established there was a disturbance in the street just prior to the attack, and we are appealing for witnesses or anyone in the area to please come forward.

“We would also be keen to speak with any local residents with potential doorbell or dash-cam footage from the area around the time in question.”
