Police hunt suspect after woman raped in 'horrendous' park attack

Police are hunting for a suspect after a woman was raped in a park in Renfrewshire.

The victim was in the Brodie Park area of Paisley when the “horrendous” attack took place in the early hours of Sunday.

She did not require hospital treatment but was left extremely frightened.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident which occurred at around 4.30am.

Detectives are appealing for information as they look to trace the person responsible.

The suspect is described as being white, in his early 20s and speaking with a local accent.

At the time of the attack he was wearing dark grey clothing.

Detective Inspector Nicky Beattie, Inverclyde CID, said: “This was a horrendous ordeal for the woman, and we are doing everything we can to trace the man responsible.

“Extensive enquiries are ongoing and there will be an increased police presence in the area and visible patrols in the park this week. I would urge anyone with information or concerns to please approach these officers.

“I would also ask anyone with dash cam footage or private CCTV from around the area to please check if you have captured anything that could be useful to our investigation.”
