Police are reappealing for information four months after a property was deliberately set on fire in a murder bid in Girvan.

Emergency services were called to reports of a fire set at a property in Whiteford around 10.45pm on Saturday, September 13.

A 21-year-old woman was rescued by a member of the public who forced entry into the building, and no injuries were reported.

An attempted murder investigation was launched.

Police are still searching for a male suspect, aged in his late teens, who was wearing dark-coloured clothing and a black baseball cap.

He was last seen running in the direction of Assel Place.

Detective Constable Stewart Gordon said: “Luckily, no one was hurt, but it could have had far worse consequences.

“This is a residential building with families living in it. The person responsible showed complete disregard for their safety by acting in such a reckless manner.

“We’ve conducted extensive enquiries; however, we’ve as yet been unable to identify the suspect.

“I’m appealing to the public for help to do that. Did you see someone matching the description in the area around the time?

“Or do you have any information which could help our investigation? No matter how significant you believe that information is, or if you think we’ll already know, please come forward and report it.”

Information can be passed through 101, quoting incident number 3595 of September 13, 2025.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
