Police are searching for two men on e-bikes after a car was deliberately set alight in Coatbridge.

A black Range Rover was significantly damaged after being set on fire around 1.15am on Friday while parked on Albion Street.

There was no damage to nearby homes and no one was injured as a result.

Investigations so far have revealed that two men wearing dark clothing were seen cycling away from the area after the vehicle caught fire.

Police are yet to establish a motive for the attack but say they believe there is no risk to the wider public.

Detective constable Scott Brown, Lanarkshire CID, said: “From our enquiries so far, two men on electric bikes, are seen near the vehicle which then catches fire.

“Both men then cycle away. One makes off onto East Stewart Street. It is not known which direction the other one goes. Both men are wearing dark clothing.

“Although no motive has been established for the attack, we don’t believe there is a risk to the wider public.

“Officers are carrying out enquiries in the area and checking local CCTV, but we’d also appeal to anyone who may have seen the men on the bikes in the area, either before or after the incident, or have any information that may assist our investigation to get in touch.

“I appreciate the fire was in the early hours of the morning, but if possible, I’d ask local residents to check any doorbell or home camera footage in case it has captured helpful footage.”

Police can be contacted via 101. Please quote incident number 0204 of Friday, April 18, 2025 when calling. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
