iStockPolice are hunting for a van driver as a cyclist is fighting for his life after a hit-and-run in Biggar.
Emergency services were called around 3.30pm on Tuesday after a 36-year-old male cyclist was struck by a Mercedes Sprinter-type van that left the scene prior to police arriving.
The cyclist was travelling along the A72 from Skirling towards the A702 at Biggar when he was struck.
He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment to life-threatening injuries.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and trace the vehicle involved, police said.
Detective Constable Josh Ellwood said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact us.
“I would also appeal to anyone who has seen a Mercedes Sprinter-type van in the area around the time to contact us.
“I would also request anyone with dash cam or private CCTV footage that could assist to get in touch.”
