Husband of woman found murdered appeared in court charged with assault

The husband of a woman who was found murdered in Renfrewshire had appeared in court earlier this month, charged with assault.

Stacy Mair, 35, was found dead alongside a 43-year-old man when emergency services were called to the Corsliehill Road area of Houston after a report of concern for a person at around 7.40am on Monday.

Following a post-mortem examination, police said her death is being treated as murder.

The death of her husband, Jim Mair, continues to be treated as unexplained pending the results of a post-mortem examination.

The 43-year-old had appeared from custody at Paisley Sheriff Court on July 6, charged with assaulting the 35-year-old mother.

The case was continued for further examination and he was granted bail.

The pair were married in 2019, and Jim Mair ran a tree removal company called TRS Tree Management.

Ms Mair, who was from Falkland in Fife, had also been a director of the company but left the role in January.

Detectives from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, as well as officers from the local policing division, continue to carry out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances.

Police said there is nothing to suggest that anyone else is involved or that there is any risk to the public.

Detective Chief Inspector Laura Young, of the Major Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts remain with the families of those affected by this incident.

“They are understandably devastated, and we are providing them with support through specialist officers at this incredibly difficult time.”
