Moffat Mountain RescueA hillwalker who broke their ankle was rescued by two mountain rescue teams after falling on ice on a hill.
Teams from Moffat Mountain Rescue were called by police to reports of an injured hiker who had fallen on ice in freezing temperatures on Criffel near New Abbey.
Crews responded to the incident around 4.23pm on Wednesday, January 17 on the hill in Dumfries and Galloway after the walker suffered a suspected broken ankle.
An initial duo of volunteers attended the site and were joined by an eventual crew of 11 members who provided strong pain relief and were able to splint the affected limb and keep the walker warm.
Teams from Galloway Mountain Rescue Team were called in as freezing conditions made the evacuation extra challenging for volunteers.
They carried a stretcher, wheel and a back rope up to the location as the injured person and the party they were with were transported off the hillside.
Teams carried the casualty to safety as ambulance crews attended to provide treatment.
Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
