STV NewsAn investigation has been launched into the death of a prisoner at HMP Low Moss in Bishopbriggs.
The inmate was identified as 60-year-old William Waye, who died on Saturday, July 11.
The Prosecutor Fiscal has received a report, and a fatal accident inquiry, which is a mandatory requirement, will be held into the circumstances surrounding the death.
A spokesperson said: “The Procurator Fiscal has received a report on the death of a 60-year-old man at HMP Low Moss, Bishopbriggs, on July 11, 2026.
“An investigation into the death is ongoing and significant developments will be shared with the family throughout the investigation.”
It comes after a new report was released by prison inspectors who visited HMP Low Moss in August 2025.
Issues highlighted in the report included overcrowding, casework backlogs, bullying and harassment and staff shortages.
However, inspectors also praised the prison with the report stating that “critical areas of the prison” were “functioning well”.
