The Irn-Bru Carnival has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Bosses confirmed the event will not take place over Christmas as Glasgow’s Scottish Event Campus (SEC) will continue to be in use as NHS Louisa Jordan throughout the winter.
The temporary hospital was established earlier this year in a bid to ease pressure on the city’s hospitals and medical centres during the pandemic.
The Irn-Bru Carnival team said they had reviewed alternative options, but were not able to find a solution that would give visitors “the carnival experience you know and love”.
The carnival is set to return in December 2021.
In a statement on Monday, the team said: “We are disappointed to share that the Irn-Bru Carnival is not able to take place as usual this year.
“This follows on from the confirmation that the SEC will continue to be in use as NHS Louisa Jordan throughout the winter.
“We have reviewed alternative options, but have not been able to find a solution that will give visitors the carnival experience you know and love. As such, we have concluded that unfortunately the 2020-21 carnival cannot go ahead.
“We are of course deeply saddened to be making this announcement, but we hope you understand the reasoning behind it, and that you will join us in wishing the SEC and NHS Louisa Jordan all the best for the coming months.
“Although we are unable to enjoy the carnival as we wished this year, we will be back in December 2021-January 2022, and we have already started working on our plans to make it a carnival to remember. “In the meantime, take care and stay healthy.”
