A van has been left “damaged beyond repair” after being set ablaze following a theft in East Dunbartonshire.
Officers were alerted to the theft of a van on Dumgoyne Avenue in Milngavie on Monday afternoon around 3:10pm.
A short time later, police received a report that the same vehicle was found on fire near to The Loan in Milngavie.
The vehicle is described as a dark blue Ford Transit van, with the registration LC21 OWR.
Police confirmed that a number of items, worth around £6,000, were stolen from the van.
The van was also damaged beyond repair by the fire, costing over £40,000.
Detectives are appealing for information following the theft and “deliberate” fire of the vehicle.
Detective constable Ciara Nicoll said: “We are asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or anyone acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the incident to get in touch, from initial investigation we are aware of a second van involved in the incident, namely a white coloured Ford Transit.
“In addition, anyone who was driving in the area around the time of the incident and may have dash-cam footage that would help with our investigation is asked to call us.”
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland through 101 quoting reference number 2015 of November 27.
“Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
